Hello Hunter Students and Parents!
I am Ryan Jacobs and your School Counselor at Hunter Middle. I've been at Hunter since January of 2012. Prior to Hunter, I was a counselor for 3 years at Parkridge Valley Hospital here in Chattanooga. My undergraduate degree in Psychology was earned at Hendrix College in Conway, Arkansas. Following that, I attended the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga to complete my Master's Degree in School Counseling in 2008.
I was born and raised in the great state of Oregon with my parents and two siblings. I grew up loving sports, the outdoors, and traveling across the country, including the beautiful south. Following in my brothers footsteps, I ventured far away from home for college but continue to visit Oregon whenever possible.
I have lived in Chattanooga since 2005. I was able to meet my beautiful bride, Casey, during our graduate program at UTC. We have been married for 4 years. In September of 2012 we welcomed our hilarious baby girl, Aubrey, to our lives.
As many of my students know, I had no idea what I wanted to do with my life for the longest time. However, I did know that I enjoyed working with children which I had done through various stops in my young life. During the time in-between my undergrad and graduate programs, I decided that I wanted to be a counselor.
Being at Hunter has been all I could have asked for and more. The children that I spend time with on a daily basis are some of the greatest I've ever met. They continue to amaze me on a daily basis and show me the best parts of the human spirit.
My job description at Hunter varies on a daily basis but the most important thing that I do is provide support to the children, staff, and parents. I am one of the co-leaders of our Olweus Bullying Prevention Program with our spectacular Social Worker, Linda Howerton. Other than that, I take care of much of the registration, testing, and permanent record information that goes through Hunter.
If you need anything, please feel free to contact me at any time.
All the best,
